Love your age!  Powerful older women can be sexy and smart; educated and classy; while making a difference in people’s lives. Imbued with passion, the army of baby boomers mixed with the senior boom is marching across America causing a sea change in the way American’s age. These positively ageless women are beautiful, brilliant, and brainy.

Magazine covers shine forth the portraits of beautiful women over 40. Their million dollar smiles beam the charismatic personality created from years of love, liberty and laughter. The Savannah magazine, VIM AND VIGOR, Memorial Health, featured actress, Diane Keaton, as an example of a natural woman aging gracefully. Education, focus on worthwhile work, projects, and family brings out the brilliance of maturity. Living in the crucible of life often shines a fabulous after 50 woman into a beam of hope.

Our First Lady, Laura Bush, is positively ageless. She meets her tremendously challenging position with poise, dignity, wisdom and charm. She is my role model.

Mother Nature and Father Time often endow women celebrating the big 5- 0h birthday with heart, health and heroism.

On my Syndicated Radio Show, www.agingoutsidethebox.net, I interviewed Dr. Nieca Goldberg, author of "Women Are Not Small Men, Life-Saving Strategies For Preventing and Healing Heart Disease In Women."  This beautiful, brilliant woman is spending her life serving humanity. Her book is the winner of the books for a better life award.

Do you love your age?  Are you positively ageless? Faith, Love and Hope will catapult you into a positive attitude of enjoying your grand finale.

The name on the hospital room read, "Jane Smith."  Preparing herself to encourage this patient, the chaplain walked confidently into the room. Jane Smith, with poignant eyes, looked at the chaplain's feet and stated, "I like your shoes."

The chaplain, moved with empathy for a woman who had just experienced the amputation of both legs, said, "I can't imagine what it must be like not to have any legs!"

This statement opened a floodgate of feelings. The chaplain pulled up a chair so as to be at eye level with Jane. She listened intently to all this hurting woman needed and wanted to say. She shared in her pain, and the Spirit of love enveloped the room, driving out the dark cloud of despair.

God is love, and He loves perfectly. Perfect love comforts and forgives us. Perfect love motivates us to bloom into our full potential.  Perfect love never fails. God came through this chaplain to embrace Jane with His warm arms of love. He loved Jane perfectly, and He loves you and me perfectly.

Robert Browning, the poet, knew how to love perfectly.  When he met his wife Elizabeth Barrett, she was frail and sensitive, often ill.  Being one of 11 children, and having a angry dictatorial father she was unable to grow into the beautiful person inside her. At 40, she met Robert Browning who saw her beauty and talent. He loved her with all his heart, and she bloomed with the sunbeams of his love and became all she was capable of becoming. They traveled the European continent, enjoying God's beautiful world. At 43 she bore Robert a healthy child. The family blossomed with happiness. Elizabeth's literary artistic talent produced works such as "Sonnets from
the Portuguese and the favorite love poem, "How do I love Thee?"

Talking to God, I envision myself as a little girl crawling up into my daddy's lap. I pray, "Abba (which means daddy) Father, take me into your bosom through the blood of Jesus Christ." The blood of Jesus makes me pure for true communication with my heavenly Father.  God wraps His warm arms of love around me, pulls me into His bosom, where I feel loved and safe. I can tell Him anything and He understands, because He knows more about me than I know myself. I ask God to orchestrate my life. I have faith He knows what is best for me; therefore, I trust Him with my life.

My God, who created me and the universe, is not some mystical being. God is real. He is approachable. He is always there. I don't just know about Him. I am intimate with Him.

As a graduate of THE DALE CARNEGIE course, I have learned to live in "day-tight" compartments. In a nutshell, this means recognizing that yesterday is gone forever, tomorrow may never come, but today is a present. Live it to the fullest. God is teaching me to live in moment-tight compartments with Him. I only have to deal with the moment, and He will be there with me.

Knowing God intimately is crucial to positive aging. Knowing Him gives you and me wings to soar through our maturing life. The great I AM - the God of the Bible - will empower us to grow with vigor and with style, not clinging to youth, but anticipating new beginnings as life unfolds.

I am reminded of Joni Eareckson Tada, who has turned a tragedy in her life into positive exuberant living. Though paralyzed from the neck down since she was eighteen, Joni is an artist. She paints by holding pastel pencils or a paintbrush between her teeth. She praises God for the gift He has given her. Though her neck muscles often ache from hours of painting, she thanks God for the strength and stamina to continue. Each year Joni designs a Christmas card and markets it throughout the world.

Joni's art inspires many people to do as much as they can with their limitations. She encourages people to do things they can do. Let's take Joni's example and believe that anything is possible with God. He never changes. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever (Hebrews 13:8).  Knowing that God never changes empowers His people to embrace life each moment, to live passionately and usefully from here through to eternity.

Life brings many changes, particularly for people over fifty - an empty nest after many busy years raising a family; the loss of a spouse by death or divorce; the loss or change of a career; becoming a grandparent - all these changes affect us emotionally, physically and spiritually.

The only safe place from which to face the changes in our lives is in the center of  God's perfect will. If you know Him and trust Him, then you can face tomorrow with anticipation.

Participate in the dance of change. If the winds of change are blowing you into new territory, count it all an adventure. This is the time to stretch and grow. Dare to embrace change and dream big. God, through His prefect love, renews you day by day.

"Though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affections is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. II Corinthians 4: 16,17

DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Aging Outside the Box
By Shirley W. Mitchell
Guest Columnist

CBN.com - The popular phrase “think outside the box” gave me the idea to “age outside the box,” living with power, style and vitality.

Satisfy us in our earliest youth with your loving-kindness, giving us constant joy to the end of our lives. (Psalms 90:14 – TLB)

Many people over 50, with their toes barely inside the new millennium, are discovering ageless living and endless energy. They are neither imprisoned in the past, nor refusing to embrace the present. People who are aging outside the box do not fear the future, but rather capture each moment as an opportunity to learn, to grow, to become increasingly all that they were designed to be.

Power

Think of the people in your life who are aging with power. There is power in living through the Word of God, The Holy Bible. Rev. Rick Warren has taken me and millions of people deeper into the understanding of having power through the bible with his book The Purpose Driven Life. Hopefully, as we age, we enjoy spiritual maturity as we live in God’s abundance. There is power in the blood of Jesus. My stuttering Paw Paw (Grandfather), who is now walking the street of gold, sang with gusto, “There’s Power In The Blood,” directing our church choir. He loved to sing, because he did not stutter while singing. As a ten-year-old girl, my Paw Paw put me in his church choir. I vividly recall him turning red in the face as he belted out his song, “THERE’S POWER IN THE BLOOD, POWER IN THE BLOOD!” That song and my Paw Paw implanted forever in my heart and head that the power of the blood of Jesus IS above all powers. There is also power as many aspects of aging become positive. It is possible older people may have more financial flexibility to glorify God. With an empty nest, many are experiencing more self-time and time to enjoy one’s passions. It’s a good time to start a new career, enjoy a hobby, or live and travel to a geographical area of one’s choice.

Style

What style of life has God planted inside your DNA? Many times, as we age, we flow into the life God has planned for us. My passions are God, family, Country, writing, speaking and traveling. I feel I have lived many years to get into my flow of life that feels good in my spirit. I am enthusiastic about my style of aging. Your style of life will certainly be personalized.

Life in Christ is unfading,

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not whither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalms 1:3 KJV)

Vitality

(1) The power to live and develop.
(2) Power of continuing in force of effect.
(3) Physical or mental energy. (Webster’s Contemporary Dictionary)

And Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. (Deuteronomy 34:7 KJV)

Wow! Moses enjoyed vitality in his later years.

The 76 million baby boomers are focusing on aging with vitality! In their quest for the fountain of youth, they are changing the way we age. They have learned that exercise is the golden egg of aging. It slows down aging by positively effecting your cardiovascular system, your immune system, your musculoskeletal system, and your emotional well-being. Exercise rekindles and re-sparks our fire for live. Fighting aging is all about high self-esteem and self-confidence, feeling good about yourself, and living a happy balanced life.By the end of this century, more people will be over 50 than under in thiscountry. It’s important that we age outside the box, with power, style, and vitality.
