...On Jan. 22, 2005 - National Author/Columnist/Speaker, Shirley W. Mitchell, was recently honored with the "Citizen of the Year Award" by the Albertville Chamber of Commerce in Albertville,Alabama, as the Chamber celebrated its theme"A New Beginning" for its 50th Annual membership meeting and banquet. The "Citizen of the Year" was introduced with a short video by those who knew her well as the new Chamber Chairman, Dr. Allen Championmade the presentation of the plaque to ShirleyMitchell. A very surprised Mitchell invited her family to join her on stage, as she told about her Albertville "roots." Former Citizens of the Year were also on hand to congratulate her, as well as Representative Frank Mc Daniel, D-Albertville. Mitchell stated, "My grandfather was a share-cropper and we lived in a house where you could see through the floor. The community has been the one thing that has given me the power to overcome those humble beginnings, and through it I learned passion plus persistence pays off." (the above excerpts taken from the Sand Mountain Reporter written by Charlotte Christopher, the Lifestyles Editor) The Albertville Chamber has recently hired a new "President", Jennifer Moore Palmer - We at Fabulous after 50 wish her the best in her new position. We thank the City of Albertville and the Albertville Chamber of Commerce for bestowing this honor on Ms. Mitchell.
